More House Stuff
We got this bed from Ikea many months ago because it was cheap and we thought we would upgrade to a bigger, nicer one eventually. Well, I couldn’t stand the unfinished look of it. So, I decided to stain it. And it looks purrrrty! And for the rest of the kitchen, which I talked about in the last post… We have mustard colored appliances. How do you choose a paint color with...

Feeling like catching up?
I’m in the mood to blog but I don’t really have a subject in mind. It’s a dreary Saturday. I really hard my heart set on a big bike ride today, but I’m a big pussy when it comes to riding in less than perfect weather. I rode a lot through this winter in wintry California conditions (I know, not that bad to most others in the country) but STILL… I stuck with it. Now...

FINALLY
I am 99% sure that this missed connection is about me. I’m the only gal getting on the bike car on this train. I ride this train every single day, see the same people get off the train every day, and I am fairly certain I know which dude this is. Either way, I’m stoked. I’ve waited my whole life for a missed connection. And now I will do absolutely nothing about it.

Early Season Training Tips
Step 1: Get a spaghetti-strainer and several small sponges. Soak the sponges in salt-water and paste them to the inside of the spaghetti-strainer. Place the strainer on your head. Find a busy road. Stand by the side of the road and do deep knee-bends for 8 hours. This will acclimatize you to a day’s ride. Step 2: Take some 200-grit sandpaper and rub your rear-end and the insides of your...

Tour of California
For the few of you that read this, I just wanted to remind y’all that I will be on the Tour of California beginning this weekend. You can find me in the events area at the Specialized tent. Come and say hi if you happen to be at a finishing city! I will be in the following cities: Saturday, February 14 - Sacramento Sunday, February 15 - Santa Rosa Monday, February 16 - Santa Cruz ...

30 Things
This was originally the 25 random things meme that went around Facebook. 1. For the first time in my adult life, I think I have a job that I really like. 2. I’m a complete movie and television snob. I can’t stand most big Hollywood flicks. I think that if a TV show has a laugh track, it’s automatically going to be lame (with the exception of Seinfeld). 3 I’m completely obsessed with planes and...

This picture rules my life. Alberto Contador and Tom Boonen. And dolphins. This is pretty good too. But not as magical. Tommeke isn’t looking so pleased. Contador has a “connection” with the dolphin. I can see it in his eyes. And his mouth.

Huzzah!
I can’t believe it. I got hired for a position with Specialized bikes! One part that’s so unbelievable is the fact that I got hired anywhere with this poor economy. The other amazing part is that I got selected for the job that I wanted the most. Emily McIntire, welcome to Specialized Bicycle Components!

Finally, this bike is finished. It rides like a dream. Building this bike was quite a processes. It was sold to me from a guy from Craigslist that sold me my Bianchi. He emailed me out of the blue and said he had a really cool bike in my size. He cut me a fantastic deal and I had a new project on my hands. I spent a couple of months doing some very aggressive ebaying. This bike came with a...

With all the crap that happened at the end of 2008, it’s easy to forget I accomplished some important things (for me) throughout the year. -Completed the AIDS Lifecycle. Rode every single inch of the 545 mile ride from San Francisco to Los Angeles. -Completed the MS Waves to Wine Ride. This two-day ride was quite strenuous, with 100 miles on day one (and over 11,000 ft of ascent) and 75...

A Cyclist's Christmas Story
Here was my chance. I was face to face with the big man and I couldn’t think of a thing. I sat there, dumbstruck. I tried to make my mouth work, but nothing came out. The surly elf began to drag me away and Santa said “How about a nice gel saddle?” I nodded dumbly and the elf tossed me onto the iced slide. What was I doing? Somehow I regained the use of my muscles and my voice. I grabbed the...

What’s up with that guy that we always see when riding? He’s always on some totally inappropriate bike, like the first mountain bike ever invented. He usually has some panniers and a handlebar bag. He’s probably wearing sweat pants or khakis. He’s got some grubby sneakers and straps on his pedals. He’s not wearing a helmet and his chain is squeaking. And he’s...

Sometimes I do this thing, where I say to myself, “whatever song comes on my ipod next will sum everything up for me.” I did this yesterday, when I was feeling kinda shitty about stuff. I thought this was a particularly good selection: New Slang - The Shins Gold teeth and a curse for this town were all in my mouth. Only, i don’t know how they got out, dear. Turn me back into...

Bicycle Commuter Benefit Part of Bailout
Congressman Blumenauer of Oregon included a bike commuter benefit provision in HR1424, the $700 billion Wall Street bailout package that passed the house today and was signed by President Bush shortly afterward. “We are delighted that the bicycle commuter benefits act has passed after a lengthy and persistent campaign spearheaded by Congressman Blumenauer (D-OR),” said League of American...

A Victory for Cyclists on Caltrain
Caltrain faces the problem of overcrowding of the bike cars with cyclists often getting bumped and not aloud to board. Caltrain’s recent decision was to add more bike parking at stations. This makes little sense, as many cyclists a.) do not live/work close enough to either end of their commute to walk the remaining distance b.) don’t feel comfortable leaving their bikes parked anywhere...

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger signed a bill Wednesday that will outlaw text messaging while driving, the governor’s office said. The law would come into effect Jan. 1, 2009.“Building on legislation already helping save lives in California, I am happy to sign this bill because it further encourages safe and responsible driving,” Schwarzenegger said in a news release.

Text Messaging
In California, it’s illegal to talk on your cell phone while driving unless you have a hands-free device. What this law failed to cover is the fact that it’s still legal to text message while you drive. IT’S LEGAL TO TEXT MESSAGE. Nevermind the fact that you actaully have to look down at your screen to send and a text message. It’s looks like it will only take a railway...

Lake Tahoe: Flume Trail and Rim Trail Mountain...
Our trip began at 4:45am on Saturday. I had a rental car and picked up my friend Michelle in San Mateo. From there, we headed out to Sacramento to meet up with our companions, Keith and Braden. Keith welcomed us with a pancake breakfast at his house. We unloaded my rental car and packed all four bikes, four people, and gear into one car. By around 8:45am, we were on our way up to Braden’s...

Boston Trip: New Camera
Some pictures from my recent trip to Boston. I spent some time learning about my new camera and playing with different settings and exposures. I’m not really sure what I am doing, but I think some of these turned out pretty darn good. All of the portaits of me were set up by me and taken with the assistance of my wonderful brother. The ‘bar’ shots were taken in my...

The other night, I was on my way to meet the boyfriend and a friend at the Nuthouse. I hopped on my bike, checked out the full moon, and stopped over at 7-11 on my way there. I got in line and was behind three people: A husband and wife and an eight-foot tall man. The husband and wife were cashing in and buying about 389 lottery tickets. This had me waiting in line for about ten minutes or so. I...
